The Project Assistant and Residential Coordinator for SOLS Foundation’s Solar Academy programme is a hybrid role involving both project coordination and student residential oversight. This is a position designed for young professionals who are eager to learn and develop their administrative, logistical, and organisational skills. 

In this hands-on role, you’ll ensure smooth operations by maintaining student records, supporting the teaching team, participating in enrollment, coordinating events, managing logistics, and overseeing student welfare and discipline in the hostel. This is a dynamic position with activities both in the academy and externally. The position is hands-on and provides exposure to a nonprofit environment focused on empowering individuals to gain better life outcomes.

What do I need?

To be shortlisted for this position, you will need to have:

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant working experience in project management, renewable energy, rural development, infrastructure projects, or related fields.
  • Candidates with academic backgrounds in geology, environmental science, engineering, or other relevant fields are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience working in remote areas or with indigenous communities is an advantage.
  • Candidates with PALAPES (Pasukan Latihan Pegawai Simpanan) training, and/or active membership in the Scouts Association of Malaysia, and/or equivalent leadership training are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Passion and commitment for serving underserved communities;
  • Strong leadership abilities, particularly in field operations.
  • Experience staying in jungle environments for 3-5 days at a time
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, make critical decisions, and manage conflict effectively
  • Comfortable working in outdoor environments with varying weather conditions (e.g., heat, rain, no internet access)

What will I do?

In this role you will:

  • A graduate or someone with up to 3 years of experience in operations, administration or a related field.
  • Proficient in using spreadsheets and basic reporting tools with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills in both Bahasa Malaysia and English.
  • A valid driver’s license (D : manual) for transportation tasks.
  • Willingness to perform hands-on tasks and assist in logistics.
  • Team player with the ability to learn quickly and adapt to a dynamic environment.
  • Has a flexible mindset and ability to adapt when external factors affect programme activities.
  • Strong relationship building skills, and ability to connect with students from different socio-economic backgrounds.
