How To Become Solar Installer

The Solar Installation industry has now become popular day by day. This is because most people are now aware that living in Malaysia has many benefits due to the weather’s condition. One of the benefits is that the natural sunlight we get throughout the year is more than enough to provide us electricity without having to pay the high electricity bill. Due to this exact reason, being a Solar Installer has now become one of the high demand jobs. It became more popular when people found out that solar system installers earn around RM36 per hour on average (source: Salary Expert). This data was collected from the employers and also employees in Malaysia.

Are you perhaps interested in being one now yet you have no idea where to start it? Well, don’t worry, we are here to give you some tips on how to become a solar installer.

  1. Find credible sources to learn solar technologies online. To be one, obviously, you need to know about solar technologies, for example, the solar panel, the wiring and electrical systems and everything else related to it. And to learn about these things, you can learn from trusted websites like Progressive Impact Technology, Progressture Solar, NEM Solar Malaysia and TOP SOLAR. Through this, you will be able to understand the foundation of the solar technologies systems before diving into it in more detail.

  2. Make sure you are fit and physically strong. Being an installer means a building’s rooftop is basically your playground. You have to climb the stairs, carry the big and heavy solar panels around as if they weigh nothing. According to Solar Reviews, a solar panel is around 5.4 feet long, 3.25 feet wide and weighs 2.3 pounds per square. Which means it is approximately around 40 pounds which is equivalent to 18.1 kg.

  3. Join a training programme. Just like driving a car, you need a license or you have to at least attend the driving classes before you drive on the road. Or else no one would want to be the “passenger princess”. You, the installer (the driver), have to attend a training programme (driving classes) first, so you can get the license or certifications, so when you have it, solar companies (passenger princess) will trust you enough to hire you so you won’t bring any danger to their customers.

And of course, we are aware that attending a training programme to get certifications could be very expensive considering there is a limited number of companies that provide the service. The prices could range from RM4000 up to RM9000 (fuyoooo, damn expensive). Which is why in SOLS Foundation, we provide a training programme called SOLS Solar Academy which offers FULL SCHOLARSHIP that includes education, food, accommodation and certifications (to be a certified Solar Installer)!

EVERYTHING IS FREE! Who doesn’t like free stuff, right? Through this programme, you will get theory training in the classroom for just 3 months, practical training for 3 months and straight into 6 months apprenticeship (with allowance) . You get to learn about sales, solar installation, solar wiring, drone skills, sales strategy and many more. At the end of the training programme, you will receive certificates and a job offer from SOLS Energy (no need to worry about job hunting)! To register, you can simply click on this link!
